The Blood Type Diet originated with the research of Naturopath, Dr. James D’Adamo author of One Man’s Food is Someone Else’s Poison, which addressed the theory that different people react to food differently based on their blood type.
D’Amo’s work has been followed up by his son, Dr. Peter D’Adamo, who has done a great deal of scientific research to further support the correlation between human blood groups and nutrition. His most popular and best-known book, Eat Right 4 Your Type, was a New York Times best-seller.
The premise of this diet is that blood type influences digestion, and each blood type has certain strengths and weaknesses. Each food has a specific value and effect on each blood type. Foods are divided into three categories based on blood type: beneficial, neutral, and avoid. There are four basic blood types: A, B, AB, and O.
Exercise and blood type are also related; there are recommendations for specific types of exercise that are best suited for each blood type.
These foods are mostly consistent for all 4 types:
Beneficial
- Broccoli, kale, collards-most dark green vegetables
- Plums and most berries
- Sardines
- Olive oil
- Green tea
Neutral
- Almonds, walnuts, pecans
- Quinoa and brown rice
- Eggs and ghee
- Agave nectar and dates
- Mushrooms
Avoid
- Wheat and wheat flour
- Bacon/pork
- Black olives
